Extraordinary Views, Freezing Showers

(May 31)
I've now survived my first full day at Ghost Ranch and am on the morning of the second. I have yet to be able to access the wifi here, so this post will most likely be posted at a later date when (if) I am able to gain access to wifi.

The views here are extraordinary. The picture above is from the front porch of the room I'm living in. It's called Kitchen Mesa (it's located right behind the dinning commons). You can't see it in the picture but just to the right of the trees in the picture is our bathrooms here. The bathrooms I would say must be the only downfall I've noticed so far to this vividly beautiful place.

When I say this I don't mean the toilets, because they are actually quite nice, but I am talking about the showers. THEY ARE FREEZING COLD! It actually makes me wish for the dripping trailer showers I used once at a West Virginia mission trip. But, like I said before, only downside. Because when you get out of the bathroom and look up there is Kitchen Mesa (which I would say is as tall as a city building) looming right over your head.

Above is the view to the right of the porch. It's so much more amazing in person. You can also see the general layout of the college staff living area in this picture. If I understood what we were told on the tour right, much of that land in the distance is part of Ghost Ranch (either that or a National Park)! Ghost Ranch is 21,000 acres (again, if I understood correctly), I'm not sure how big that is, but on the tour we were told it's the size of Manhattan. I think I need that translated into miles or square feet because I Manhattan seems so much bigger! Maybe I just need to walk around more, or maybe I can't believe it because you can't stand at one end of Manhattan and see directly across to the other, there are too many buildings in the way. Perhaps at the top of the Empire State Building, but I've never been up there so I wouldn't know.

The people here are pretty much awesome. And I mean each and every one of them in their own different awesome ways. The other college staff come from all over the country, but there seems to be a lot of people here from Pittsburg (PA), Ohio, and Minnesota. Some of the other states (if I can remember them right) include: Connecticut, Virginia, Florida, Kentucky, Indiana, Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Arizona, and California. I think there might be more, but those are the only ones I can remember off the top of my head.

Well, I guess that is pretty much all for now. Oh, and the food is good too, there is a salad bar. I guess, now I just have to get access to wifi and post this... maybe some day soon? If not I guess I can go over to the library and post it off a computer there, I think there might be an Internet connection there? Ta-ta for now. Gee, I hope I don't have to wait until I'm at an airport on my way home to post.
